Dayton, Ohio, was our destination for a day trip in August. With a lillte research ahead of time, it became apparent that one day is no where near enough time to see all that Dayton has to offer. We decided to center our activities in the downtown area for this jaunt.
Our first stop was at Memorial Hall, downtown Dayton. This magnificent building serves as both an auditorium for performances, but also as a civic hall for all kinds of events. The statuary and memorial plaques and carvings are quite moving in their remembrance of the sacrifices of our past military heroes.

Our next stop was Sinclair Community College, with it’s interesting Modern Architecture. We were there when the kids were coming back to school, and met a couple of incoming freshmen who, in typical ‘newbie’ fashion, were looking at campus maps. It reminded us of when our kids had their first day at college!

Our next stop was at the Patterson Homestead, a beautifully restored brick house built in 1816. The original owner was Col. Robert Patterson, a Revolutionary War veteran. This home and farm, called the Rubicon Farm, was the home to three generations of Pattersons, including John H. and Frank Patterson, the founders of the National Cash Register Company. The house was closed the day of our trip, but the grounds were just beautiful, as the photos show. We plan to return some day to tour the house.
