Ball State University is located in Muncie, Indiana in the east central part of the state. BSU is known for its excellent Teacher’s College and School of Architecture and Planning, among others.

Putting Ball State on your travel agenda is a great idea.  The campus is one of the most beautiful in the Midwest, with a potpourri of traditional and modern examples of architecture. While the football stadium and other athletic facilities are located on the extreme north end of the campus, most of the dorms and class buildings are within easy walking distance.

Prominent in the center of campus is Shafer Tower. This magnificent structure literally “towers” over the entire area. Topped with an impressive carillon, the tower echos each quarter hour, and is used to play additional music at times.

Muncie and Ball State both have celebrity ties. David Letterman of Television fame is one of BSU’s most famous supporters. His donation of The Letterman Communication Center was most generous. Jim Davis, creator of the famous “Garfield” cartoon cat is a native of Muncie.

The BSU campus is also home to many fine works of art, in addition to the actual Art Museum. One of the most famous works is the “Frog Baby” statue, prominently displayed in one of the many fountains dotting the grounds. “Frog Baby”, by famed artist Edith Barretto Stevens Parsons, is revered by many students who believe rubbing the statue’s nose before an exam will produce good marks. Modern art is also displayed as well.
